Recorded live at Nashville's Ryman Auditorium, the Willie
Nelson & Friends - Stars & Guitars concert special
included many guests such as Sheryl Crow who joins Willie for "Whiskey
River", Toby Keith on "Good
Hearted Woman" and Lee Ann Womack for Willie's
sensational recent smash hit "Mendocino
County Line" recorded on both Willie and Lee Anne's own
CDs. Bon Jovi and Richie Samora join Willie Nelson for "You
Were Always On My Mind" and Willie's old friend Ray
Price is welcomed on stage to perform "Nightlife".
There are far too many artistes appearing here to mention them
all by name but Ryan Adams, Keith Richards and Hank III join in with
the Rolling Stones' "Dead Flowers"
and Norah Jones joins Willie for the lovely slow duet of "Lonestar".
Aaron Neville is here on Hoagy Carmichael's classic "Stardust"
and Patty Griffin is not to be forgotten for her haunting
performance of "Angels Flying Too Close
To The Ground" with Willie just sliding in on harmony
vocals…the best track on the album for me…simply magnificent!!!
Vince Gill puts in a spine-tingling appearance on the wonderful
"Blue Eyes Crying In The Rain"
and goes on to introduce Willie and Emmylou Harris on Rodney
Crowell's stunning "Until I Gain Control
Again". The awe-inspiring Willie Nelson & Family
band finish this CD off in fine form with "On
The Road Again" and "Move It
On Over".
This surmountable live recording must be one of the most
unique concerts to be held at the legendary Ryman Auditorium with
"Stars" from so many differing genres of music joining
forces to honour the sensational music Willie Nelson has given us
over the past three decades or more. If you're a lover of great
music this is an album not to be missed. |
