They come from the Deep South...that is South Wales
and Bristol, England, not South Tennessee or Bristol Alabama,
USA. They are one of Europe's top Rockabilly bands; they
have built up a strong reputation through constant touring,
playing venues 20 miles from the Russian border to shows
on Broadway, New York; they are the Rimshots. The Rimshots
have recorded and toured with rock legends, cult heroes
and some great country singers such as Narvel Felts, Mac
Curtis, Wanda Jackson, Van Morrison and Merrill E Moore
who they dedicate this album to. In 1999 the Rimshots won
British Country Music Award for Best British Country Music
Album with their Hank Williams Tribute. For 2003 The Rimshots
will be appearing at the Las Vegas R'A'B festival as well
as touring the surrounding area, before moving on to Australia.
Released on Big Cigar Records,
Musical Medicine is
the Rimshots latest album since their Hank Williams Tribute,
with an array of rockabilly and stone-country numbers. 14
tracks with 6 written by the band,
Musical Medicine is guaranteed as their latest Toe
Tapping "Cure-all"!!!
From the opening of "The
World Keeps Turning" written by lead guitarist
Robert Nation, the Rimshots grab your attention and don't
let go. The strongly delivered baritone vocals of lead singer
John Lewis soar high and clear. "Dancin'
Shoes" written by steel guitarist Paul Godden
is given the Cajun touch, as the Rimshots transport us down
to Louisiana, with the addition of raw dance twin fiddles
from Jean Godden and Billy Thomas.
John Lewis includes his own sensational solid country
numbers "Please Pretty Lady"
including a little yodelling and the desperation of the
"Hanging Tree",
telling of an innocent man used as a scapegoat and sent
to his end.
The Rimshots cover 8 sensational numbers here including
"Cow Cow Boogie",
"Mercedes Benz"
and a fantastic version of Webb Pierce/Merle Kilgore's
"More & More". The Rimshots rock it
up with their own arrangement of
"Whole Lot Of Shakin", with some blistering
fiddle from Benet Walsh. Marty Roberts'
"21 Carpenters" is a thought provoking
tale of how a woman can bring a man's world crashing down
around his ears. This whole awe-inspiring collection finally
comes to a close with a hip-hop version of Felix Bryant's
"Salty Boogie".
In the words of the song "If you don't have fun it's
your own damn fault"!!!
