Another Day is the latest album
from British singer/songwriter Clive John and his fourth album
release. Clive has built a strong fan base and following on
the British country music scene, as well as performing at several
country music festivals up-and-down the country. Spending time
in New York City a few years ago Clive has developed a penchant
towards songs that margin upon tales of broken
love affaires, disappointed relationships and deeply troubled
mistiness of wanting.
A classically trained guitarist, Clive plays all guitar and
mandolin parts, alongside musicians such as cellist Joanne Steel,
John Hartley on piano, Lauren Turner, Hammond organ and
percussionist Michael Benson creating a truly aesthetic
accompaniment. Another Day offers 11
of Clive's own songs creating an album that I dare to say is his
best release to-date.
The bouncy opening "Other Side
Of The Moon" sees a relationship that has drifted
greatly beyond repair. The lovely wistful "A
Matter Of Love" explores the true feelings behind
a strained relationship, while "Cigarettes
and Coffee" has our young hero hiding behind a mask
that disguises his true yearning of long floundering love and
finding that it is all too late to declare his long hidden feelings.
The heart wrenching "On Nights Like
These" is my pick of the album, with a sweetly yearning
declaration of the emptiness that is left behind when love goes
wrong and leaves both mind and body at its lowest ebb with that…I'll
never fall in love again frame of mind. In comparison a lively
up-tempo number screams out a statement that our hero of the
piece, throws off his regrets and firmly believes that he is
destined to become a "Superstar"!!!
This exemplary album will surely please, striking the listener
with the strength of fine vocals, sweet melodies and an unflickering
passion of lyrics. Another Day
sees Clive John presenting an intoxicating collection of emotive
and heart-felt songs that will draw an array of differing emotions
from the deepest chasms of the soul!!!
