Liverpool based The Bar Room Boys have been playing
the Bridge Inn, Norris Green every Monday for several years,
breaking on to the British country music scene 3-4 years
ago like a breath of clear Alpine air with there easy laid
back style. Originally the four guys were Terry Fletcher
(electric rhythm and finger-picking guitar), Billy Rivers
(acoustic guitar), Peter Guy (bass) and Bobby Arnold (lead
Guitar) with all the lads taking their share of lead vocals.
Sadly Bobby Arnold started suffering from cancer of the
throat in the early part of 2001. After treatment it was
thought that Bobby was clear of the cancer, but it wasn't
to be so and on 28 April 2003 Bobby Arnold passed away.
This 21 track CD Live At The
Bridge is dedicated to Bobby Arnold with Bobby being
prominently featured of the opening track "Do
You Want My Job".
With the passing of Bobby guitarist Dave Whitehead ably
stepped into the breach on lead guitar. Live
At The Bridge features Billy, Terry and Peter on lead vocals
performing a selection of the numbers that the Bar Room Boys include
in their stage act, including the likes of "California
Blue", Kitty Kallin's million seller from the 50's
"Little Things Mean A Lot",
Raymond Froggatt's "Somewhere Under The
Sun", "The Highwayman",
John Conley's "Rose Coloured Glasses",
Elvis Presley's "Flaming Star"
and many, many other wonderful songs. The up-tempo bluesy feel of
"San Francisco Bay Blues"
definitely wets the appetite, with the whole gold plated collection
being brought to a close all to soon with the very lovely "Moment
Of Forever"
Additional musicians helping out with this project include
Lenny Whitehead (lead and slide guitar), Garry Potter (lead guitar)
Dave Rowland (pedal steel), Neil Edwards (keys), Roland Arrate
(drums) and John Pettifer (guitars, percussion). The powerful
presence of the talent assembled delivers a solid underpinning with
fluent and nimble guitar-work from so many top notch British country
guitarists that suitably supports the weave of invigorating vocal
styles of Billy, Peter and Terry.
An album destined to reach the dizzying heights of the top
shelf, reach up and drink in the intoxicating brew found Live
At The Bridge (Inn)….it's warm, rich and inviting!!! |
