Manchester, Area Code 0161 has long been associated in the
company of good music, with many successful bands originating from
the region. With two recent awards voted by country music fans,
John McCane and his band The Breed are swiftly becoming one of the
most popular bands on the British country music circuit. This is
John's second release, recorded in Ireland with a display of
top-class musicians. John enthused, "You have the likes of
Jim McVie who is Dominic Kirwan's musical director and Steven
Smith who is an absolutely wonderful bloke to work with and a
great musician….that man can play absolutely anything! He has so
much competence and confidence, he is just an absolutely gifted
musician."
With top class production, Area Code 0161 contains eight
covers and five new numbers. John, who co-wrote "La Jolla
Shore" with the band's keyboard player Pete McDonald, solely
writes two tracks "Ya Know The Dance" and "Only A
Fool". "Running Round In Circles" comes from the
pen of Ray Grundy co-written with John and we also find one song
written by Tony Ainscough…well known as half of the British
country duo Louisville Tony lends "Afraid".
A seasoned performer, John McCane has learnt his craft over
many years, initially with Irish show bands and then moving onto
the country music scene. John's heady vocals quickly draw you into
the warmth of this choice and highly listenable selection,
offering strength of feeling that flows smoothly. With liner notes
written by country music journalist Brian Ahern, Area Code 0161
generates another riveting album that is sure to draw further
attention from radio as well as country music fans.
If Area Code 0161 follows a similar course as John's first
album You Get The Lights set out, both fans and radio alike will
be falling over themselves to give this album a spin. A
well-balanced album strongly delivered and undoubtedly destined to
soar high, Area Code 0161 offers a crock of gold at the end of
musical rainbow.
