Recorded in 2002, 15 Years
- A Retrospective, represents a cross section
of the Sons of San Joaquin most requested material
from their 15 years together. This family trio
comprises of Lon Hannah, son of Joe and nephew of Jack
Hannah. Their true love of Western music has put the
Sons in the top of the tree for Western harmony
groups.
Just a few of the awards received by this family
harmony group saw in 2001 the National Cowboy Western
Heritage Award for "Charlie
and The Boys" from the CD "Sing One
For The Cowboy". That same year they also
received the highest honours from the Western Music
Association with Awards for Traditional Western
duo/group of the year, Song of the Year - "Sing
One For the Cowboy" written by Jack, Traditional
Western Album of the Year - "Sing One For the
Cowboy" and Traditional Duo/Group of the Year
Award"
Released on Western Jubilee Recording Company, 15
Years - A Retrospective sees 16 tracks from the
Sons starting out with Bob Nolan's "Happy
Cowboy", which if my memory serves me
right was used to introduce Hank Williams on his radio
program. Some wonderful music and sensational
harmonies are contained on this CD. The true feel of
the wide-open west is conjured up as we listen to Tim
Spencer's "Timber Trail"
and Ian Tyson's "The Gift"
transports us with delight back in time to Montana
where the Sioux and Crow Indians roamed the prairie
along with herds of wild buffalo. The Sons offer a
salute to the men who tamed America's West with a
horse and a rope and gun…the "Great
American Cowboy" and "From
Whence Came The Cowboy", both songs
written by Jack Hannah and Jack contributing 8 tracks
in all to this CD.
Take a leisurely ride "Along
The Santa Fe Trail" and stand and welcome
home a loved one with "Song
of The Rover". The sweetly yearning
lighter than air harmonies weave a wonderful web of
the romantic impressions of American's West, while the
solos stand effortlessly on their own as with "Wyoming
On My Mind", "Is
It Because" and "I
Ride Along And Dream". Jack's award
winning song "Charlie And
The Boys" can also be found here along
with a sensational version of the all-time favourite
"Ghost Riders In The Sky".
Some of the top musicians on the western field help
out including Rich O'Brien - guitar, Randy Elmore and
Richard Chon - fiddles, Dennis Mack - bass and
accordion, Mark Abbott - bass, and I must mention
Jack, Joe and Lon adding extra percussion…boots
& spurs…just love that. 15
Years - A Retrospective offers a brew that is
warm, rich, inviting and even more so…undeniably
refreshing. Take a deep drink from its jug of plenty
and enjoy the silk lined vocals of the Sons Of San
Joaquin!!! An exemplary collection of 15 years of
time-honoured entertainment.
